Dear Dr. Atkinson,

Enclosure 4.

617

Hongkong, 21st September, 1907

Mr. Rose stated that he had had constant diarrhoea and vomiting for about 4 days before I saw him and had practically retained nothing; he had also had jaundice for about the same length of time.

When I saw him he had jaundice and slight fever, weak, quick pulse, profuse sweating, and was very weak. The diarrhoea and vomiting was absent during the 10 hours I was there. The only physical signs were an enlarged liver and a large tender spleen.

There was a history of malaria. He attributed his illness to food poisoning but could not point to any special article of diet.

In view of the distance and time spent I think $50.00 would be a reasonable charge, if the Government is going to defray the cost.

Yours truly,

(Sgd.) G. B. Aubrey.
